Delicious and Easy Apple Recipes Perfect for Apple Picking Season

Over 40 black woman holding bag of apples in the orchard

I know I am a summer girl, but there are a few things I can get with in the fall. I love seeing the fall colors, I enjoy the holiday decorations, some of the fall flavors, and I am a fan of apple picking. Now, I never picked apples until a couple of years ago. Can you even believe that? I am a city girl, so traveling to an orchard from Chicago just was not something we did. Fortunately, we can get apples all year long in the grocery store, so I could at least enjoy a delicious apple even if I had not picked it myself.

I get excited for apple picking season because there are several things I look forward to making with my apples. These are recipes I found and made for my family because I am naturally a curious cook. Most times when I have a dish that I enjoy, I also end up intrigued and wonder how I can recreate the dish at home. These simple recipes will give you plenty to do with those apples you pick this season.

Apple Dumplings: I am telling you I had never heard of an apple dumpling until I moved to Indiana. Once I had it, I was obsessed, but finding a good recipe escaped me for several years. Once I tried this simple recipe, I knew I had hit the jackpot. There is something about a warm perfectly seasoned apple inside a buttery crust that makes me swoon. Listen, the people who make these locally every year do an impressive job, but these homemade apple dumplings are even better according to my family, and I do not have to pay $9 a pop.

Greek Yogurt Bowl: Now, we love our sweet treats, but here is a healthy choice for a snack or breakfast meal to help you use up those apples of yours. This greek yogurt bowl simply requires you to cut up, season, and warm your apples to your liking (I like mine firm) and top your greek yogurt with them. Add some granola or my maple glazed pecans and go for it. Make sure you use a sweet apple like a gala or fuji to balance the tartness from the yogurt.

Caramel Apples: One of my absolute favorite things about fall are caramel apples. I have always enjoyed them since I was a child, and I was excited to find a copycat recipe of my favorite brand because there is something about their recipe that just does it for me. These are a fun fall treat, and even a cool activity to enjoy with the family.

I have some other ideas to try my hand at with all the fall apples, but this is a great place to start. Try them out and let me know what you think! What’s your favorite recipe to make with apples?
